About Abolarinwa
I’m a recent Software Engineering graduate from Carleton University, and I’ve always been someone who enjoys mathematics. Throughout high school, I maintained an A+ grade in math, but I don’t believe my grades are the most important part of what makes me a good tutor. One of my biggest strengths is being able to break down difficult concepts and explain them in a way that makes sense to others.
In high school, I was always happy to help my classmates understand concepts, especially before exams. I enjoyed taking the time to explain things, answer questions, and make sure they understood the material rather than simply giving them the answer. That is something I have continued to value throughout my education.
I also believe one of the most important questions in education is “why?” Before we start, I want to understand why you want to improve in math. Maybe you genuinely enjoy the subject and want to learn more. Maybe you need a certain grade to get into university. Maybe you are struggling with the subject and want to build your confidence. Whatever the reason, I think understanding that goal is important.
Once we know why we are doing it, we can use that as motivation when things get difficult. My goal is not only to help students get better grades, but also to help them understand what they are doing, become more confident, and hopefully develop a better relationship with mathematics.

My approach to tutoring is to make math easier by breaking down difficult concepts and building up on them. I believe there is a stigma towards the subject, and that fear alone can make it difficult for students to truly understand a problem and solve it.
Math is a unique subject, one that takes practice. Unlike other subjects where you may have to memorize and study large amounts of material, math is more focused on understanding how to approach and solve a problem. Yes, you have to learn formulas, but this is where practice comes in.
My lessons are mostly focused on solving the same type of problems repeatedly. When the student becomes comfortable with that concept, we move on to a harder question. I find this repetition effective because it builds familiarity with different types of questions. Over time, students can recognize what they are being asked and understand what steps they need to take just by looking at the question.
I want my students to become excited about mathematics, the same way I was growing up. I usually break down my solutions into clear steps, starting with identifying the information given in the question and what needs to be found. From there, we choose the appropriate formula or method and work through the problem step by step until we reach the answer.
What sets me apart is that I am young and can relate to students on a different level. I understand that some students simply do not enjoy the subjects they struggle with, and I don't believe that struggling with math means you are bad at math. Sometimes, students just need someone to explain the concept in a way that makes sense to them and give them enough practice to build their confidence.
My lessons are aimed mainly at middle school and high school students who want to improve their understanding of mathematics, prepare for tests and exams, keep up with their classes, or simply become more confident in their ability to solve math problems.
