About Lauren

As a junior majoring in history at San Diego State University, I bring to the table strong experience in analytical and research-based writing at the college level. Earning a 5 on both the AP Literature and AP U.S. Government exams reflects my foundation in critical reading and structured argumentation; skills I continue to develop through upper-division humanities coursework. I approach tutoring with professionalism, preparation, and respect for each student’s individual learning style. My goal is to provide clear guidance, thoughtful feedback, and a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their academic voice.

**Note: Sessions are conducted in English about English writing. I am conversational in German (B1 level) and can offer limited support in German if the student would find it helpful.

Hi! I’m a history major and a junior at San Diego State University with a strong background in academic and creative writing, and I offer tutoring in:

Essay writing (argumentative, analytical, research papers)
Creative writing
Grammar and sentence structure
Literary analysis
Proofreading and revision support

What Are My Teaching Methods & Techniques?
My approach is collaborative and skills-focused. I prioritize helping students understand how writing works, not just how to complete a single assignment. I guide students through thesis development, argument structure, textual analysis, and revision strategies so they can apply those skills independently in future coursework. I also tailor sessions to each student’s needs. Whether that means breaking down prompts step-by-step, modeling analytical thinking, or focusing on grammar fundamentals.

What Does A Session Entail?
A typical session begins with identifying the student’s goal (brainstorming, outlining, revising, etc.). From there, we review the assignment requirements and any drafts or notes. I provide structured feedback, ask guided questions to strengthen analysis, and help develop a clear, organized plan. If needed, we focus on specific skills such as integrating evidence, refining thesis statements, improving clarity or tone, or correcting recurring grammatical issues. I aim to ensure students leave each session with concrete next steps and a sense that they understand what's going on.

What Sets Me Apart?
As a history major with extensive experience in collegiate-level writing, I have strong training in analytical argumentation and research-based essays. I earned a 5 on the AP Literature exam and US Government exam in high school, and continue to refine my writing through upper-division humanities coursework. Beyond credentials, I aim to create a patient, approachable, and judgment-free environment. I understand that writing can feel intimidating, so my goal is to help you build not just skill, but confidence.

Who Are The Lessons For?
I offer tutoring for high school and early college students, particularly those in humanities courses such as English, history, and comparative literature. I can assist with AP-level and General Education coursework, composition, analytical essays, creative writing assignments, and research papers.
