About Laney
I’m a qualified educator with a degree in Secondary Education and experience teaching high school biology. In addition to my classroom background, I’ve worked professionally as a chef in high-end kitchens, which has deepened my ability to communicate clearly, think creatively, and adapt to different learning styles. As a tutor, I combine my love for science, language, and real-world connection to help students build both understanding and confidence. Whether we’re working on academic writing, science comprehension, or English fluency, I offer structured, engaging lessons tailored to each learner’s needs. I take pride in creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing. I tailor every lesson to the student’s goals—whether that’s mastering scientific concepts, improving writing skills, or building English fluency. I approach each subject with patience, creativity, and a focus on helping learners truly understand and express what they know.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to identify priorities and set a clear focus. From there, we dive into guided practice—this could mean analyzing a science article, working through a writing prompt, breaking down biological systems into simple terms, or reviewing grammar in context. I always encourage thoughtful questions and reflective conversation, and I close each session with takeaways or next steps.
What sets me apart is the interdisciplinary perspective I bring. I’ve taught high school biology in a formal classroom, trained in fine dining kitchens, and now combine those experiences to create lessons that are thoughtful, structured, and creatively engaging. I understand how to meet students where they are—especially those who are bright but struggle with expression, or who learn best through real-world connections and sensory learning.
