Modern Language Association MLA (Modern Language Association): This style is typically used in the humanities, including literature, philosophy, and the arts. It prioritizes the author’s name and the page number for in-text citations1. The Chicago Manual of Style CMS (Chicago Manual of Style): This style is often used in history and some humanities disciplines. It offers two systems: the notes and bibliography system, which is common in the humanities, and the author-date system, which is more common in the sciences1.
