About Lundenne
I am a fourth-year student from Canada, pursuing a dual major in History and English. I have conducted independent research in feminist studies, ancient Rome, and the Italian Renaissance. I will be incorporating some of my favorite works into my classes and using notes from completed University courses that I have found particularly helpful in writing impressive essays and analyses. I know from first-hand experience that the jump from high school to university academia is very intense and intimidating. I hope to inspire confidence in younger students who are about to take on a new chapter in their lives. My classes will help these students easily adapt their writing and critical thinking skills to university-level marking, and make their penmanship a force to be reckoned with!

These lessons are best suited for a junior or senior student in high school who is keen to pursue English or History in University, or any high school graduate preparing to begin their arts degree. The truth is, high school English classes do not prepare students nearly enough for the course load they are about to take on in their first year of university classes. My goal is to help students shape and enhance their writing so that when their first report comes along in the Fall, they are better equipped with the right skills to impress their professor.
Here are some examples of the lessons I will teach:
Critical Analyses
- You don't have to read the whole book! Analyze chapters and passages with me - deriving themes and ideas that connect to the modern world.
- Learn how to pull themes, lessons, and messages from books. This is the most common question seen on exams - at least for the Arts degree students.
- Some books I will be using in my lessons include:
Candide (Voltaire) - This book is a great example of Allegory and Metaphor. For those interested in pursuing a History major, Candide provides insight into major Cultural movements of its time.
Surfacing (Margaret Atwood) - This novel explores the political realities of both Canada and America. Surfacing relies heavily on symbolism to portray its themes and connections to social issues.
The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald) - this novel is full of motifs, juxtapositions, and irony. This novel provides great examples to define and remember how literary devices function in storytelling.
Essay Writing
- Learn how to write the best essay. Understand how to articulate your argument effectively in your thesis.
- Point, proof, explain. This is what every teacher says in high school and university, but it is important to understand HOW to do this concisely and efficiently.
- Learn how to put thought to paper. Convert the idea to a sentence.
- Learn the proper grammar. Learn the difference between commas and semicolons, and when to use them. Learn how to use parentheses and quotations properly in an essay, story, or short article.
