I am a student tutor for other students and will tutor those wishing to pass their GCSE English Literature exams with flying colours. My teaching method is all online over a Zoom (or similar platform) call. This way I can share documents and presentations on my own screen live to help explain information.
The structure of my lessons will consist of a contextual approach to the individual, so I can learn what you already know and what you need help with. After this, I will choose a lesson plan appropriate to the needed help, be that spelling, grammar, reading, writing, spoken language, etc. I will consistently check to see whether individuals are grasping my way of teaching in the certain style I choose, if not then I will adapt to their learning style.
I teach to both individuals and to groups but feel that 1:1 contact is more effective for focusing on progression.
If at any point you feel that you need to go over a certain topic more in depth then I am more than happy to do so, just let me know!
I am an English Literature graduate from the University of York and am enthusiastic in tutoring English to assist students wanting to catch up on their GCSE work before the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted teaching. I have recently graduated with a strong 2.1 degree and am looking at going into teaching as a professional career in the near-future. I am confident, friendly and motivated in my teaching style and am able to adapt so that I can ensure pupils grow confident themselves in a given topic. I have tutored Media and Film Studies at AS level in the past and so English Literature would be new to me but in no way makes me incapable as I have thoroughly studied the National Curriculum for English and know exactly what is expected of students.
My rates vary if there are exceeding travel costs to visit a student's home, though I will ensure this is at its minimum. I am more than willing to spend more hours with students for the same price per hour no matter what their previous knowledge as I believe in a fair education for all. If you wish to cancel your tutor meeting, there will be no cancellation fee but you are free to rearrange the appointment to whenever best suits you.
BA in English and Related Literature at University of York (graduated with a strong 2.1 degree, 2017 - 2020).
A-Levels in Art, English Literature, and Media and Film Studies (A-C grades, 2015 - 2017.
11 GCSEs between A*- B grades, including English Language and Literature and Maths at A grades (between 7 and 8 in the new grading format, 2010-2015). I received an A* grade (9) in Religious Education, A grades (7-8) in Art, Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Physical Education (BTEC equivalent), Product Design, and B grades (6) in Physics and French.
My work experience:
Media tutor for AS Level (2016-2017) at my college. This subject works closely with theory-based knowledge and tests analytical skills, which are also strongly needed for English Literature.
Assistant Volunteer at a local sixth form for Media and Film Studies and English Literature (March 2019). I helped teachers and students in their classes from Year 7 to Year 13 in both subjects over two days to gain some experience in working in a classroom.
Child Workforce Volunteer Assistant for York College as part of an internship my university offered, York Students in Schools (September 2019 - December 2019). I worked as an intern to aid GCSE students who had unfortunately not achieved at least a C grade (4) in their exams. I shadowed current teachers and received advice on the profession, whilst having some classroom assistant experience myself. I worked with a range of pupils including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and one who was audibly-impaired.
Volunteer at National Citizen Service (NCS) (January 2016 - September 2016). As a volunteer, my role was to assist the mentor and leader of my team to ensure that all members of the group were participating in activities, making sure they were safe, attending the organised meetings we had for the Social Action project, and overall enjoying the programme that was built to help young people gain experience and information to assist their bright futures.
