About Melanie
I am a reflective, dedicated and highly-skilled practitioner with extensive experience in primary education, special needs, and leadership. As an enthusiastic and experienced teacher, I have worked in a variety of school settings including SEN. I have experience of working with primary age children from EYFS to Year 6, including KS2 SATs, CATs and Kent tests.
Using high quality assessments, I design and deliver bespoke learning programmes.......with enjoyment and engagement at the heart!
I teach a range of subjects; however, I specialise in and love teaching English and Maths.
I am a highly organised and creative with an individualised approach to learning which has Assessment for Learning at the core. My lessons have been judged as outstanding.
In my senior leader role, I have helped write successful appeals for grammar schools. I also write assessment reports for schools and inform school action plans and EHCPs. My role has included working closely with all agencies from Looked After Children, Refugee agencies, Special educational needs groups, CAMHS, Educational psychologists, East Sussex and Kent County Council fostering agencies.
I have further training in Learning Powers, inclusion, behaviour management, Autism & Aspergers and am currently completing a Diploma in Children and Adolescent Counselling.
I have also been involved in the development of a social and emotional health programme, specifically looking at children’s mental health. This programme, ‘Circles for Learning’, is now being trialled successfully in Primary and Secondary schools within Sussex and Kent.
My thorough understanding of what constitutes good and outstanding teaching and learning, when coaching and mentoring staff in a number of schools, has ensured improved practice. I have successfully trained and mentored NQTs and SCITT students – one of whom attained Teacher of the Year in Kent!
