About Jan Briane

Hi there! I'm Jan Briane (JB) Astom, and I'm thrilled to have you here. I'm currently studying for an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bath and have a strong foundation in Mathematics from The Open University. My professional journey includes working as a Research and Critical Care Nurse, as well as being a lead analyst for the Epic EHR deployment at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

I have a passion for teaching, having previously taught both piano and nursing. My greatest joy is seeing my students surpass me in their achievements. Together, let's explore the fascinating world of maths, statistics, and Python in a way that encourages discovery and celebrates learning from mistakes. I'm excited to be part of your educational journey!

About the lesson

Hello! My name is JB, and I am an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor specialising in Mathematics and Statistics with a bit of Python programming on the side. With a solid background in these subjects, I am passionate about helping students discover the beauty of numbers and code through a pragmatic and student-centered approach.

I believe that true understanding comes from exploration and discovery. My teaching methodology focuses on creating an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Here's how I achieve this:

- Pragmatic Learning: Encouraging hands-on problem-solving and real-world applications to make concepts tangible and relatable.
- Guided Discovery: Allowing students to explore and discover solutions themselves, which helps solidify their understanding and retention.
- Mistake-Friendly Environment: Emphasizing that mistakes are a crucial part of learning and growth, helping students build confidence and resilience.
- Personalised Learning: Tailoring lessons to each student’s needs, strengths, and areas for improvement.
