About Joanna
I've been teaching Art & Design for over 20 years, and I still teach full-time today. I genuinely love my job and feel incredibly fortunate to work in a creative subject that allows me to inspire young people every day. As Head of Art, I enjoy leading a department that encourages creativity, curiosity, and confidence while supporting students to achieve their very best.
Outside the classroom, I live with my partner and am a proud mum. I continue to create my own work, specialising in painting and printmaking, and I believe that being a practising artist helps me bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and real-world experience into my teaching.
I'm proud to have exhibited my work three times in recent years in London with Art From the Heart, and I'll also be exhibiting in this year's Coastal Currents Arts Festival. Continuing my own creative practice keeps me connected with contemporary art and gives me first-hand experience of the creative process that I can share with my students.
I believe that everyone has artistic potential, and I look forward to helping you achieve your creative goals.

I am an experienced Art & Design Teacher with over 20 years teaching experience and have been Head of Art and Design for over ten years. I have a passion for helping students of all ages develop confidence, creativity, and technical skills. Whether you're preparing for exams, building a portfolio, or simply exploring art for enjoyment, I tailor every lesson to your individual goals and ability.
I can help you with:
• Skilful drawing techniques – observation, proportion, perspective, shading, and expressive mark-making.
• Painting and colour theory – understanding colour, mixing techniques, composition, and a range of painting media.
• Printmaking – including monoprinting, lino printing, and etching.
• GCSE and A-Level Art & Design support – guidance with coursework, sketchbooks, artist research, portfolio development, and exam preparation, helping students achieve their full potential.
• Creative lessons for younger children – engaging sessions that nurture imagination, confidence, and artistic skills.
• Adult learners welcome – whether you're a complete beginner or looking to develop existing skills, lessons are designed to help you learn at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Qualifications and lesson information:
• BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Current Enhanced DBS check.
• One-to-one lessons available in 1-hour or 1.5-hour sessions.
My teaching style is encouraging, and supportive. I believe everyone has creative potential, and I strive to make lessons enjoyable, inspiring, and challenging in the right way. With extensive classroom experience and a proven track record of excellent results, I understand how to help students develop both strong artistic skills and the confidence to achieve their personal and academic goals.
