About Zac
Students deserve a tutor who not only understands biology deeply but can explain it clearly, patiently, and in a way that builds real confidence. I bring nearly a decade of college-level teaching experience, working with majors, non-majors, dual-enrollment students, and adult learners. My background includes teaching Majors Biology I & II, Zoology, and General Biology in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats, which means I know how to adapt my approach to meet each student’s needs.
My sessions are structured, supportive, and focused on genuine understanding rather than memorization. I take pride in creating a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring challenging ideas. Professionalism matters to me — I am reliable, well-prepared, and committed to helping every student reach their goals with clarity and confidence.
Whether you’re preparing for an exam, strengthening foundational skills, or trying to overcome anxiety about science, I’m here to guide you with patience, expertise, and a teaching style shaped by years of real classroom experience.

# **My Approach as a Tutor**
My tutoring style is built around clarity, patience, and helping students truly *understand* biology rather than memorize it. I focus on breaking complex ideas into simple, manageable steps and connecting every concept to real‑world examples so students can see why the material matters. I use active learning techniques, visual explanations, guided practice, and structured review to help students build confidence and long‑term mastery.
---
# **Teaching Methods & Techniques**
- I start by identifying what the student already understands and where the confusion begins.
- I use diagrams, analogies, and step‑by‑step breakdowns to make difficult topics feel approachable.
- I teach students how to study biology effectively, not just how to get through one assignment.
- I incorporate practice questions, concept mapping, and spaced repetition to reinforce learning.
- I adjust my pace and style to match each student’s comfort level and learning preferences.
---
# ️ **What a Typical Lesson Looks Like**
1. **Quick check‑in:** What are we working on today? What feels confusing?
2. **Targeted explanation:** I break down the topic using clear examples and visuals.
3. **Guided practice:** We work through problems or diagrams together so the student can apply the concept.
4. **Independent try:** The student practices with support as needed.
5. **Review & next steps:** We summarize the key ideas and set a plan for what to focus on next.
Every session is structured but flexible, so students feel supported rather than rushed.

# **What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor**
- I have **nearly a decade of college‑level teaching experience**, including majors, non‑majors, and dual‑enrollment students.
- I specialize in helping students who feel anxious or overwhelmed by science.
- I bring a mix of **clarity, humor, and encouragement** that helps students relax and learn more effectively.
- I understand how biology is taught at the college level, so I can help students prepare for exams, labs, and long‑term success.
- I focus on building confidence, not just completing assignments.
---
# **Who My Lessons Are For**
My tutoring is ideal for:
- **College students** taking Majors Biology I & II, Zoology, General Biology, or related courses
- **Pre‑nursing and allied health students** who need strong foundations in cell biology, genetics, physiology, etc.
- **High‑school and dual‑enrollment students** preparing for exams or strengthening their understanding
- **Adult learners** returning to school or refreshing their science knowledge
- **Students who struggle with test anxiety or feel “lost” in fast‑paced biology classes**
I meet students exactly where they are and help them move forward with confidence.
