About Colin
Yikes! I'm not particularly good at 'about you' sections. I'll give it a shot anyway! I have worked with young people for a many years now. I used to work as a youth community officer in Aberdeen, Scotland which was a wild experience. I've done a lot of Charity work in Africa and Haiti which was even wilder still. I enjoy meeting new people as I feel everyone has a story to tell that's always worth listening to. I'm a pretty slick guitar player, qualified canoe instructor and lifeguard. Right now, I'm about to finish my Masters Degree with University of Hull so I'm excited to get that done and start a new chapter in my life!

As a I teacher I feel it is important to have a balanced methodology, that is, be mindful of a student's level and ability to engage with the material presented to them. I am good at identifying strengths and weaknesses in students after 4 years teaching a wide range of levels (ages 8-18) in Vietnam. I am TEFL and IELTS certified. I generally use powerpoint presentations, short videos(for context or vocabulary), activities for 'real world' use of English and also creative activities for students to practice with. In addition, I have experience with Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams software as I used those platforms during lockdown for several months to great effect.
For higher level English language learners I feel being challenged with critical thinking on topics, familiarising themselves with English and test structures, time management, comprehension skills as well as additional preparations has proven to be effective.
I am very approachable, and have a good sense of humour. I don't believe there is such a thing as a 'stupid question' in language learning. I have pleanty of materials, particularly for those looking to do IELTS or prepare for an equivalent language certification.
I have taught for as long as 2hours at some points but my usual length of a language lesson is between 45-90 minutes. I can tailor lesson times to the requirements of a student with ease however.
