I am a certified tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Media and Communication Studies. I specialize in tutoring English as a second language. With my 13 years of teaching experience (8 years as a Journalism Tutor and 5 years as an English teacher) in the classroom, I understand the student's need for personalized guidance and instruction. I am an experienced tutor committed to helping each of my students reach their full potential. I have a calm and engaging manner and believe in teaching through kindness, patience and a step-by-step approach. I approach each topic according to the immediate and long-term needs of the student, depending on specific areas where they need help. Depending on the desire and temperament of the learner, I can gear lessons either towards exam survival, or towards the nurturing of lifelong learning. I have learned throughout my teaching career, that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. Thus each student responds differently to learning and requires a personal learning style, according to their standard of performance. For any given first lesson, I like to get to know the student, find out where they are at in their course of study, and see what their current working methods are like. Usually talking about the current homework or due assignment is a great way to assess their challenges and requirements, assess where my help is mostly needed and thus collaboratively devise a joint program of work.
