About CHARIS
Hi, I’m Charis — an English educator with a big love for language and over 10 years of experience helping people grow in confidence and skill. I have a Master’s in Education from the University of Oxford, and I’ve taught in public schools, created literacy programs, and worked with learners of all ages — from early readers to adults. My journey in education has been wide-ranging, but at the heart of it is a simple belief: everyone learns differently, and everyone deserves support that fits them. Whether you’re trying to strengthen your writing, get through tricky grammar, or build a better relationship with English overall, I’m here to guide you with patience, structure, and a bit of creativity too. Hi, I'm Charis — an English language educator with over 10 years of experience supporting learners of all ages and backgrounds. I’ve worked as a public school teacher, a literacy program designer, and an NGO co-founder focused on helping children learn to read and write with confidence. I hold a Master's in Education from the University of Oxford and a teaching certification in English from a Malaysian university. My teaching style is student-centered, kind, and flexible. I believe learning happens best when students feel safe, seen, and supported — so I always start by getting to know each learner’s goals, strengths, and areas for growth. Whether you’re struggling with grammar, want to improve your writing skills, or need support preparing for exams, I’ll tailor lessons to meet your specific needs. A typical session begins with a check-in and a quick warm-up to build confidence, followed by targeted practice using texts or tasks that are meaningful to the student. I integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening into lessons whenever possible, and I use gentle prompts and feedback to help learners grow their skills and voice over time. I work with: Children who are learning to read and write Teens needing support in English (schoolwork, essays, creative writing, exam prep) Adults wanting to strengthen their English for work, study, or personal growth ESL learners at any level Neurodivergent learners who benefit from a calm, adaptive teaching style What sets me apart is my ability to create a supportive, empowering space where language becomes less intimidating and more of a tool for self-expression.
