About Denise
I am a qualified headteacher with over 25 years’ experience, including specialist qualifications in teaching reading, Reading Recovery, SEND and a Master’s degree in school leadership. I have extensive experience teaching across the early years and primary curriculum but particularly enjoy supporting children to learn to read, including those with SEND and those children who typically find reading tricky.

My online tutoring lessons are carefully tailored to each individual child, with sessions lasting between 30 and 45 minutes depending on age and need. I use innovative, evidence-informed approaches that align closely with the methods used in schools today. Having been a primary headteacher for many years, I have a clear understanding of what schools expect and how best to support children to succeed, including preparing pupils to pass the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. Above all, my sessions are friendly, patient and encouraging, with plenty of laughter along the way, helping primary-aged children to grow in confidence and to develop their literacy skills and knowledge.
