About Courtnie
Hi! I’m Courtnie and I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a minor in History. As a child I struggled with reading. I was able to quickly memorize books read to me, even down to the page the words were on, but I couldn’t actually read the book or explain what it was about. As a result, I needed tutoring. Between 1st and 2nd grade I had a great teacher and tutor who helped me learn to read and discover that it was something I loved. Now, I have nearly eleven years of teaching and tutoring high school students in reading and writing in a classroom setting and a year of teaching students online. My experience with all of high school, grades nine through twelve, has given me experience in everything from state testing to literary analysis to college essays.
I am exceptionally skilled at creating good working relationships with my students which assists me in understanding what they need help with even when they don’t really know what to ask. A good teacher or tutor needs to be able to listen to their students and adjust their teaching methods in a way that allows each student to be able to successfully learn the material. My experience with so many grade and age levels has given me the experience to be able to do that.
I hope to be able to assist my students in not only passing whichever course they are struggling in, but also be able to begin to at least appreciate it even if they don’t love it.

I am a firm believer that different students learn in different ways. I would start with a diagnostic to see what students know and what they struggle with. Then we would discuss in what ways the student believes they learn best. We would take subsequent lessons from there.
I am available for all grade levels, but I am most proficient in high school grades. I am finishing my twelfth year as a high school English teacher but do have experience in elementary and middle school.
