About Simon

I trained for and completed my PGCE in Plymouth gaining experience at Devonport High School for Boys, Tamarside College and The Plymouth Hospital School in the process. Following the completion of the course I began teaching at Hemsworth Arts and Community College across the full range of Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, The Gilberd in Colchester, and The Albany in Hornchurch.
I have a wide range of experience, from helping students towards their Entry Level qualifications to ensuring Grade 9 candidates achieve their full potential. I have provided individual tuition to students over the last 8 years and have good experience of working with learners with special educational needs.
Over the past few years all my students have met their required FFT and predicted grades at GCSE for both Maths and Statistics and in my private tutoring work all my tutees who have undertaken their GCSE following my tuition (and their hard work) have achieved grades higher than their school predictions.

About the lesson

My passion, experience and deep understanding of the subject allow students to make significant progress with their mathematics. I am friendly, enthusiastic and creative in my approach and offer a wide range of tailor made resources. I provide personalised learning plans, based around students' individual needs, and have an extensive library of subject-related material. I can provide tutoring at primary or secondary level, from Key Stage 2 all the way up to Key Stage 4. I use a range of different approaches in my teaching and believe that maths should be fun and engaging.
I offer a flexible service and can arrange times to fit around your commitments, at a location that is convenient for you. I am a qualified teacher and member of the GTC. I hold a current DBS check dated June 2019 and always show it on first meeting.

Simon is a wonderful teacher. Quickly adapts to the needs of whom he is teaching. He is very calm, friendly and patient. I was his head of department and was a big loss when he left for another school. He was professional and had high expectations of colleagues and his students. Simon is able to differentiate the work, give support and guidance and learns his students strengths and weaknesses and acts upon them. Would I recommend him as a teacher/tutor? Without doubt and would do so in high confidence.

Simon started being my Maths tutor towards the end of year 8 and I continued with him until I did my GCSEs. Simon helped me get an A in Maths and gave me so much confidence. He was very reliable and patient with me. I would highly recommend him to be your tutor. He was very supportive and showed me different ways if I didn't understand one way. He was patient with me. Definitely a 5* tutor and person
