About Mehansa

Hi! I'm Mehansa, an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor with a Bachelor of Science and currently pursuing Honours at the University of Melbourne. With a strong academic background and years of tutoring experience, I specialize in helping primary and high school students build confidence and achieve their best in maths and science.

My journey in tutoring began with a simple goal—to make learning more engaging, accessible, and enjoyable for students. I know that every student learns differently, which is why I focus on personalized teaching methods that cater to individual needs. Whether it’s simplifying complex equations, breaking down scientific concepts, or guiding students through problem-solving strategies, I ensure that each lesson is interactive, effective, and stress-free.

I genuinely care about my students' success, and my approach goes beyond just delivering lessons. I aim to build strong connections with my students, helping them improve their academic performance and develop a love for learning. I believe that understanding is more important than rote memorization, and I work hard to make sure my students grasp the logic behind every concept.

My lessons are structured to keep students engaged and motivated, with an optimal session time of 1 hour, extendable to 1.5 hours for those who need extra support. Whether you're struggling with tricky topics or looking to get ahead in your studies, I’m here to help you reach your full potential with a clear and structured approach to learning.

If you’re looking for a tutor who is patient, encouraging, and passionate about education, I’d love to work with you. Let’s turn challenges into achievements and make learning a **rewarding and enjoyable experience!

Find out more about Mehansa

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in teaching developed alongside my love for learning. As I progressed through school, I found that I not only excelled in my subjects, particularly biology and maths, but also enjoyed helping classmates understand complex concepts. This eventually led to tutoring, and I realized how rewarding it was to see students gain confidence and clarity in their learning. The moment I began tutoring, I knew it was something I wanted to continue doing, as it allows me to combine my passion for the subjects with the joy of helping others.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach both biology and maths, and I find both subjects fascinating. In biology, I particularly enjoy discussing topics related to human anatomy and physiology as they directly relate to real-world applications. In maths, I love exploring algebra and calculus because they are foundational and can be applied to so many practical problems. While I enjoy most topics, I find that some aspects of advanced statistics can be a bit tedious for both me and students, though I always aim to make these topics engaging and accessible.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had several teachers who inspired me along the way. One in particular was my high school biology teacher, who made complex concepts feel accessible and exciting. She had a unique ability to connect abstract ideas with real-life applications, which made learning so much more engaging. Her passion for the subject inspired me to pursue biology further, and I strive to instill that same enthusiasm in my students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must be patient, empathetic, and adaptable. Patience is essential because each student learns at their own pace. Empathy allows you to understand where the student is struggling and help them overcome those challenges. Being adaptable is also important because a good tutor should tailor their teaching style to meet the individual needs of each student, whether that means changing the approach for a particular topic or adjusting the pace of the lesson.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my most memorable experiences as a tutor was when I worked with a student who expressed themselves differently. Each lesson was a challenge, and I found myself adjusting my teaching approach daily to better connect with the student. It required a lot of patience and flexibility, but it was incredibly rewarding. The joy I felt each time the student grasped a difficult concept or answered a question correctly made all the effort worth it. These moments of progress reminded me of the power of persistence, adaptability, and creating an environment where students feel supported and understood.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One of the challenges I faced in biology was understanding the vastness of the subject. There is so much to learn, and sometimes it can feel overwhelming to remember all the details. However, over time, I learned to break things down into more digestible parts, which helped me manage the complexity of the subject. In maths, I find that some students initially struggle with abstract concepts, but once they see how these concepts apply to real-world situations, they often have those "aha!" moments that make everything click.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion lies in teaching and making science and maths accessible to all students. I'm particularly passionate about helping students realize that these subjects are not as difficult as they may seem. The moment a student starts to connect the dots and feel more confident in their abilities, that's when the magic happens for me as a tutor. It's not just about teaching content; it's about empowering students to believe in their potential and their ability to succeed.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I believe what sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect with students on a personal level, tailoring my teaching to their individual needs and learning styles. I'm not just a teacher; I'm a guide who helps students navigate the sometimes-challenging world of biology and maths. My experience in both subjects, coupled with my dedication to creating an engaging learning environment, allows me to support my students effectively. Whether it's online or face-to-face, I aim to make every lesson a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience.
