About Freddie
First things first: I'm not your standard English tutor. I come with a broad mix of GCSE, A-level and university-level teaching as well as 20 years in the commercial sector working in publishing, journalism, music and design. Not quite Renaissance man, but working on it.
I'm a great believer in one-to-one teaching. It is the method with which I have achieved the best results, in particular as a tutor at Oxford University where I taught around one third of all the English degree students who studied American Literature. I'm proud to say I achieved outstanding feedback for my work there.
I come fully (over)educated with a Oxford BA, UCL MA and Oxford DPhil. I'm a passionate, life-long reader of novels, poetry and non-fiction with a very broad range of additional cultural knowledge, especially art, design, film, history and music. Bookish I am not, however. I am a highly experienced communicator who loves working with young people to bring out their interests, skills and ambitions.
Finally, I am a father of two and step-parent to another two. So you could say I have an excellent working knowledge of the changing conditions and challenges that young people face today. In addition, I am genuinely committed to giving them the tools they need to help make a better world than we have so far been able to manage.
