As someone who spent five years on a swim team and years prior learning how to swim proficiently, I have been exposed to a variety of tactics to teach kids how to swim, with the experience of learning how to swim myself.
I always start by ensuring that the student is comfortable in the water first, and then I start with the basics of kicking, pulling, and breathing in the water for a front crawl.
My teaching would be best suited for novice swimmers (aged 2-12) with little to no experience in the water.
