About Amariah
Hi, I’m Amariah. I hold bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Women’s Studies, a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with nearly a decade of professional experience.
My academic and clinical background has given me a strong understanding of human behavior, identity, culture, inequality, relationships, and social systems. I am especially skilled at taking complex ideas and explaining them in a way that feels clear, practical, and relevant to everyday life.
As a tutor, I strive to create a supportive and respectful environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking critically, and learning at their own pace. I am patient, dependable, and committed to helping each student build both their understanding of the material and their confidence in their own abilities.
I welcome students from a wide range of backgrounds and learning styles. My approach is inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming, and tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student.

Hi, I’m Amariah. I hold bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Women’s Studies, a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with nearly a decade of experience helping people understand complex ideas about human behavior, identity, relationships, and social systems.
My tutoring style is conversational, collaborative, and tailored to the individual student. Sociology can sometimes feel overwhelming because of the amount of theory, specialized language, and reading involved, so I focus on breaking concepts down into clear, manageable pieces. I use real-world examples, current social issues, and connections to everyday life to help students understand not only what a theory says, but why it matters.
A typical lesson begins with the student’s current goals, whether that means reviewing a difficult reading, preparing for an exam, understanding a specific theorist, or organizing an essay. From there, we may talk through concepts, create study tools, review assignments, practice applying theories, or strengthen the structure and clarity of written work. I adapt my teaching methods to the student’s learning style and am always willing to explain something in a new way.
What sets me apart is the combination of my academic background and my professional experience as a therapist. My work has required me to think deeply about culture, inequality, family systems, gender, sexuality, disability, power, identity, and social institutions. I bring that perspective into tutoring while remaining focused on the student’s course requirements and academic goals.
My lessons are a good fit for high school, undergraduate, and introductory graduate-level students. I can help with introductory sociology, social theory, gender studies, inequality, culture, race and ethnicity, family, research concepts, exam preparation, and academic writing. My approach is encouraging, inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming, and free of judgment.
