About Chantal
Before each lesson, I usually engage in conversation with my students about their day. Share a laugh or two and eventually allow them to open up to me about what struggles they're facing and then create a relaxing atmosphere for them to feel comfortable to begin conquering their fears.
My experience is my own personal education background as well as after school tutoring with my Daughters and their Classmates. I also volunteered with non profit organizations where I was able to help students in areas that were a bit challenging for them.

When working with a new Student I usually take a step back assess what level the Student is at, inquire then make my own evaluation on what their needs are then create and individualize teaching plan to arrive at their Goal.
During the years I have done tutoring I have worked with students in elementary and middle school. I have also had the opportunity to work with students with learning disorders, disabilities and language barriers.
I would tell the Student to review the teacher or tutors background, inquire about their teaching methods and see if it is conduesive to their learning needs.
A recent event in which I was fond of was when I was able to assist a struggling mother of two who had a language barrier and was incapable of assisting her boys with their studies. After a few weeks of tutoring with me they were not only able to catch up with classmates but also able to meet their grade criteria for their classes to move forward.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When a Student approaches a Teacher or Tutor about his/her needs, they should ask how successful have they been in teaching this subject area or a Student with this particular need and how confident they are in helping the Student accomplish their Goal.
