About Clarice

I have very flexible hours and can easily adjust my schedule to benefit my students all the while maintaining an affordable price point for my services. That being said, I'm always open for negotiation.

I'm very hands-on when tutoring with students, working with them to solve problems. Even when tutoring online, I find ways to keep my student engaged.

I also offer structured lesson plans and handouts for students grades K-8, integrating CA Common Core.

I enjoy helping students out with their academic careers. I have access to a library of e-textbooks and scientific journals that often block students with a paywall, and I enjoy being able to share my resources.

Most of my students are often too busy with real life and are bogged down with busywork assigned to them by their schools. As someone who was once in their shoes, I like to give back and help lighten that burden so they may focus their attention on other things.

I've always had a passion for teaching and tutoring. For as long as I can remember, I've always helped out my struggling classmates to better understand topics they have difficulty with.

I first started tutoring my classmates in middle school for Pre-Algebra. We had a very strict and demanding teacher and a lot of my classmates didn't understand her teaching methods. Because I was one of the very few in the class that understood the lectures, a few of my classmates turned to me for help.

Since then, I've been tutoring my classmates and yearmates all the way up to my college career.

I studied Nursing abroad and graduated from an international school accredited by the W.H.O. and received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a Cum Laude. Throughout my entire four years of schooling, I maintained the top rank of my year in nursing school.

After discussing and comparing nursing school stories with other nursing graduates from the United States, it seems that the training my school provided was much more rigorous and intense. If anyone is curious about it, I'd be more than happy to discuss my experiences with them.

I've also been trained to work with underperforming students in grades K-12, adapting to their learning styles to fit their needs.

First, I begin with introductions and try to get to know my student. I like to have them get comfortable with me as we will be working together for some time. As someone who has studied nursing, I value the process of establishing and building rapport with my clients.

I'll ask them for more information about what they need from me, asking for clarification on anything I deem will be necessary to better complete the task given.

I also ask them what method of communication they prefer to make communication much easier for the both of us.

I currently work as a substitute teacher and tutor for kids in K-12 that attend homeschooling/charter schools and as such, I've also had the pleasure of working with SPED students. I tutor these children in groups or in one-on-one sessions. Majority of the K-12 students I've worked with are underperforming students, but some are just in need of a little extra help.

I also work with college students in Nursing school or in medically-allied courses.

Some of my students had severe test anxiety, while some others needed visual cues and analogies to better relate to and understand the subject matter. Some of them couldn't understand visual diagrams and needed real-life examples.

A lot of my students would automatically say "yes," when asked if they've understood something we've gone over. Despite that, I liked to test them to see if they really did understand and see if they could demonstrate said understanding or explain the topic in their own words. With this, it allowed me to see if my students needed further teaching before moving onto the next topic.

I would advise students to try and see if they can build a rapport with their prospective teacher and to try and ascertain if said teacher is knowledgeable about the topic they need assistance with to see if they will feel comfortable and confident with the teacher they've chosen. There's nothing more stressful for the student and their families looking for a tutor than working with someone they feel uncomfortable with.

Last week, my dog played and ran around too much in the parking lot and the concrete injured his toe beans. Sensing the pain and discomfort my dog was in afterwards, my cat went out of his way to cuddle and groom my dog. Usually, they act like siblings and get into petty spats over toys or my cat would go out of his way to annoy my dog.

Seeing my cat go out of his way to comfort my dog during that time was something I found to be very sweet.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
"Is this person qualified? Do they have relevant experience?"

"Do I feel comfortable with them?"

"Do our schedules match?"

"Are they able to provide the type of instruction I need? Will they be able to deliver it in a way that suits me?"

"Is their rate within my budget or are they too expensive?"

"Are they willing/able to use the method of communication I prefer?"
