About Jannat

As a current college student with nearly 3+ years experience in tutoring, I offer personalized tutoring in social sciences, literature, reading, and writing. Need help with college admissions or ESL? Got you covered! I also provide science tutoring to round out the academic support your child needs. Let's work together to boost confidence and academic success in a fun and supportive environment!

I started through my schoolmates and my other classmates. I was one of the best students in my World History class last year, and oftentimes, when I finished the class assignment for today, I'd go and help out other students who struggled with different concepts. Everytime I helped someone, not only were they able to understand it much better, but their grades also improved! It was definitely a very gratifying experience, being able to see that their grades improved, and also seeing how much better they could understand a subject.

I'm currently a junior in high school, and I LOVE history and literature! In my free time, I tutor some of my classmates for free, and that's where I considered becoming a tutor. I get it - as someone who was once tutored, it was not fun! It was often confusing and I left feeling even more stressed and uncomfortable. But, through those times, I learned to develop my own learning style, and I found students usually understood bigger topics like historical events when you break it down into manageable pieces. Through this, I developed a tutoring style that is not only beneficial to the student, but to me, in that it helps me to see what I can do to better help the student!

Usually, I have parents of the student send over the material that the student is MOST struggling with, and I, in turn, make a lesson plan, including:

-Easy-to-read notes

-Links to pages and articles the student can read

-Videos that summarize the lesson plan

-Additional books they could also read

During the lesson, I like to introduce myself to the student and get them to warm up to me. When doing a lesson with them, I don't like to lecture on and on! Instead, I sum it up in a way that's entertaining to them, while also giving them more insight into the problem. Around the end of the lesson, if there's anything else that the student is struggling with, I answer questions and write it all out for them to take a picture of or copy down.

I've worked with mainly students in high school, as well as middle school students! Sometimes, they're very good students who just need that little push, and other times, they're students who are barely passing. Everyone needs the opportunity to flourish, and I can certainly provide that! I usually work with grades 6-10, as well as grade 11.

The best teachers are those who are patient with you and give you the opportunity to grow and flourish! Of course, we all can't have that, but look for people who are naturally energetic about helping others!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Definitely address your weak points before and during a tutoring session! Also, please don't be afraid to ask questions! No question is dumb!
