About Alysia
I am a 5th grade classroom teacher certified in K-6, supplemental instruction in Math & Literacy K-8, Middle School Language Arts & ESL/bilingual education. I have a Bachelors in English and creative writing and am a graduate student pursuing a Masters in Educational Leadership. I assess the studen'ts strengths & weaknesses, ensuring they are on grade level and adjusting instruction to ensure their educational success! I also specialize in test taking skills and critical thinking.
I absolutely love what I do! My passion is helping children realize their full potential and abilities and building a relationship with them. I focus on the whole child and celebrate their successes with them.
I started substitute teaching while attending college and fell in love with helping students feel successful and increasing their skills.
I have a bachelor's in English. I am a current 5th grade student, I have been teaching for 6 years. I hold a standard NJ teaching license in K-6 all subjects, supplemental instruction in Literacy and Math K-8, Middle School Language Arts, and ESL/bilingual education. I am also a mentor teacher and support student teachers from The College of New Jersey.

I first discuss with parents what they believe their child's strengths and weaknesses are and what goals they have for our time together. I then do diagnostic testing on the student so I can gage their grade level in reading and Math. Next, I come up with an individualized plan to fill in any gaps in their learning or enrichment.
I have taught in a classroom setting Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade Math & Science, and 5th grade. I have taught ESL and native speakers. I have tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in all areas of instruction up to Algebra II. I have also done test prep with elementary, middle, and high school students for the ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, SAT, & ACT. I have also worked with college students in essay writing, English courses, college math, and statistics.
Make sure that they are not just tutoring and providing help but also serving as a consultant. Ensure that your tutor listens to your child and is truly a part of a team to ensure your child's success.
Everyday with my students results in fond experiences. Recently, I reconnected with a 4th grade student who I worked with in 1st grade and he was so excited to begin working with me again. The connection I make with my students is by far the greatest reward.
