About Jeremiah
I am adept at helping people see complex concepts in terms that they can easily grasp.
I love to see that moment when someone really gets something that they previously just couldn't wrap their mind around. I was the student in class who could understand the teacher and the concept, and see that many of my classmates didn't, and have a good idea of what to show to make it clearer. I have had many opportunities to test that out in my own school, and long since graduating.
In high school physics, we all had to design and build a rubberband powered car, and we would be graded by how far it went. The farther each car went, the lower grade would be earned by those cars that didn't go as far. Well, when my car went over three times farther than the nearest competitor, my classmates weren't too pleased... So the teacher relented a bit, and they began coming to me for help with homework and prepping for tests. I have been explaining concepts ever since.
I have built a small house, become an amateur blacksmith, taught myself welding, and can fix cars, 2 ton digital printing presses, UH-60 helicopters, and small engines. I have learned woodworking, I bake delicious sourdough bread, and am an accomplished grill master (according to my family). I have tutored homeschoolers, my fellow classmates and my sons. Oh, and I did get an Associates degree in math.

1. First, I find out where the student is in their class. Example, for math, are they in pre-algebra, algebra 1 or 2?
2. I find out what they are having to do in homework, or what the teacher was going over most recently that they are stuck on.
3. If I can, I try to get some kind of syllabus for what they will be studying through the semester, and we can go over concepts as they are taught them in class.
I have worked primarily with students over 11 years old.
It is most important to be able to grasp the idea behind a thing. Once you 'get' that, you can figure out anything you need to. You want to find a tutor who can explain a concept in the simplest terms. You want to be able to take a thing apart, so to speak, and put it back together. You want a tutor who can walk you through that process step-by-step, NOT giving you the answers but helping you find the answers on your own.
I have a 7 year old son and a 5 year old son. I am quite fond of having taught them to add 2 digit numbers in their head. My seven year old can add numbers like 25 + 67 without a piece of paper. His brother is determined never to be left behind. I give him numbers like 25 + 30, and he generally gets them right. I love those boys...
