About Genevieve
I volunteered as a tutor when I was in high school at the Homework Help Center at the public library for about ten hours per week. However, due to the pandemic, it, unfortunately, was stopped for the time being. I had the opportunity to work with children in grades preschool to 6th grade, but mostly worked with 1st and 2nd graders. Since the library was always short on volunteers, I would work either one-on-one, small group (3-4 children), or large group (up to twenty children at once). My tasks included reading books to children, assisting children on their reading, giving suggestions on their writing, helping them solve algebra problems, or checking their homework. I was blessed with the opportunity to teach such wonderful and patient children and want to continue tutoring online.
During the summertime, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a reading tutor at the summer school program at an elementary school. I started working there three days a week for multiple hours a day but because I enjoyed working with the kids so much, I increased the workload to being there every weekday, which the kids loved. I started with one-on-one sessions, as is recommended by the program director, but since I was able to connect with the kids, I began to tutor a small group, ranging from 3 to 6 kids. The grades of the children ranged from kindergarten to 7th grade but I mostly tutored in 1st and 2nd-grade classes.
I love when my students are able to understand something that they have had difficulty with. I love seeing that "Aha!" moment; it always brings me a smile.
I started tutoring as a volunteer at an elementary school summer program and from there I started to tutor for multiple hours a week at the public library (also as a volunteer).

I like to learn a little bit about the student, namely how they feel about the subject, what their teacher or parent has told them that they need to improve on, and how they prefer to learn. Once I learn more about them, I can use their own life experiences or their likes and dislikes as examples to explain a difficult problem.
I have tutored students from preschool to the 7th grade, helping with both their English and Mathematics homework. However, most of the children that I tutored was in the 1st and 2nd grade.

One day I was running late to tutoring at the library and when I got there, I was surprised when one of the 2nd-grade students that I worked closely with was so overjoyed to see me. She was jumping up and down and made me smile with her enthusiasm to get started. The other tutors told me that she refused to start her homework without me and waited patiently until I got there.

My rates for both algebra and English are $30/hour. However, if the parent cannot afford that, I am willing to drop my rates to what works best for you.
