About Michael
I have a degree from WVU in mathematics (2020), plus certification to teach secondary education mathematics (2020). I have experience both tutoring and teaching high school mathematics in subjects such as algebra, precalculus, and geometry.
My process of teaching and learning math is to break down a given problem or topic into smaller pieces, and from there work to understand how and why everything works the way it does. Breaking down the problem and understand each piece to it is how you will learn and become better at math now and for future classes.
My favorite part about teaching or tutoring is seeing the student improve their mathematic abilities. So if I can help in any way I can to help a student improve and succeed in math, I will do that.
I have always wanted to be a teacher and I have always loved educating and coaching so to start a career where I can do both was what I always planned to do. Teaching keeps my mind strong and coaching keep me physically strong.
Majored in mathematics at West Virginia University and got certified to teach secondary education mathematics (grades 5-12). I have previous experience as summer camp counselors for 6-12 year olds. I have student taught and tutored at a high school in West Virginia and taught freshman Algebra. Currently working towards Masters in Sports and Coaching Education and West Virginia University.

Before we start I want to know three things:
-what is this person struggling with mathematically
-what are they currently working on in their class or personally
-what mathematic material(book) are they using to learn mathematics
Using the responses to these questions, I determine how I want to go about teaching(tutoring) each individual. Sometimes we start with material the individual has been struggling with. Sometimes we will start with the material they are currently working on. Other times I will use the mathematic material provided to inform how I go about teaching material. No matter what direction I choose to go, my strategy for working with a student doesn't change, I work with them to break down the problem into individual parts and we work together to understand how and why each part works. My end goal is to have to students' understanding of the material be good enough to where they are able to teach others students about the given math topic.
I worked with, either teaching, coaching, or was a counselor for kids/students of all ages and ethnicities. I am adept to teaching anyone who is wanting to learn more about mathematics.
