About Anika
I am extremely patient, and will not judge when a student doesn't grasp a concept. I will work with them till they understand each part.
I like when students feel confident. I try my best to improve their self-confidence in any subject (English or Math) and make sure they feel ready and excited to learn more.
I have been a teacher since 7th grade, where I volunteered to train about 30 kids for the Math Olympiad that year. I won the contest school-wide 3 times, and placed in the top 2% each time. I have always been able to explain concepts clearly, and I enjoy helping others understand to the fullest. I have since taught math and tutored English students in high school, as well as designed a theatre course that I teach in the summer.
I was a Math Olympiad teacher for 5th-6th graders for about 3 years (starting in 7th grade!), where 25% of students were 90th percentile. I also taught a theatre program, tutored high school students in English essay-writing, and led my Varsity Tennis team in high school through workshops. I am now an upcoming sophomore at UC Berkeley, where I intend to study Economics and Psychology.

I will first talk to the parent to see what he/she feels needs improvement. After, I will sit down with the student and let him or her talk about how he feels about the subjects he is learning. It is important to understand a student's feelings before attempting any problems, as their self confidence is important for problem-solving! I will give them a few worksheets to do by themselves to gauge position in math then work with them on specific concepts. This is similar to my process with English students.
I have main experience with children from 8-15. However, I can work with anyone from Kindergarten through 12th grade, depending on the math involved. I am also available to help with English as well!
Have a trial session with the tutor, and pay attention to how he/she teaches. All learning styles are different. If you don't grasp a concept within the first 3 times explaining, you most likely will not be able to work with that specific tutor. Don't be afraid to change tutors or keep asking when you don't understand.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How they learn. Do you learn from videos or from reading? Doing practice problems without learning the concept or learning first? Also, how strong your previous foundation has been. Tutors can only build and improve current skills based on what they know about your past.

I don't have a standard pricing system, as the price will depend upon how far I have to travel (if I have to) as well as the grade level of the student (the difficulty of topics). The average price of a one-hour session is $40 per hour.
