About Penelope
I have 37 years of experience working with children, beginning as a babysitter and camp counselor as a teen. I have also been a nanny, a substitute teacher, a private school teacher, a homeschool mother and finally a tutor.
I began tutoring in 2020 when the schools went into the online mode. I saw the students struggle and wanted to do everything that I could to help them through these challening times.
In 2020, I worked with a 3rd-4th grade group largely from Yuba River Charter as well as Forest Charter. We were together for the entire school year and had a wonderful time.
While schools have reopened, I have continued to do one on one tutoring with individual students, ranging from the 3rd -7th grades.
I have tutored children with a Waldorf background as well as a private and public school background, in addition to homeschooling my son for nine years, with Waldorf methods.
One of my favorite moments is seeing a child have a breakthrough experience, where they tackle a hard problem...and see that they can do it!

I first talk with the parent to assess the child's needs.
We then set up an introductory meeting with both the child and parent.
If we feel like it is a good match, we set up a time for the child and I to meet one on one. We can begin lessons immediately, or we can do a fun activity such as cooking together to get to know one another.
