About Ruth
My students benefit from my network of music educators and other professionals, who always have good advice for working on different elements. They have resources for everything--surviving your first audition, working on air support, overcoming performance anxiety, and perfecting your technique.
I love the bassoon. I get really excited about playing and talking about the instrument, and I want to share that excitement by teaching others how to play, too.
In elementary school, I started playing clarinet in 4th grade and showed an aptitude for the instrument. After a year, my mom found a clarinet teacher for me who was wonderful. I loved practicing and going to lessons every week. When I changed to bassoon and went to college to study music, my clarinet teacher invited me to teach with her and work with her bassoon students. I've been teaching private lessons on-and-off ever since then.
Graduated from Messiah College in 2008 with a BA in music (primary instrument: bassoon)

All of my instrumental students have been middle school and high school aged. However, I have also worked with opera choirs that included children and adults, as well as taught a girls' chorale group who were between the ages of 8 and 13.
