About Shaun

Hello future students, my name is Shaun Yap. You can call me Shaun. If you are looking for a swim instructor that is detail-oriented and knowledgeable in all disciplines in swimming, you should check out my Q&A section for more details. I teach lessons of all ages, whether you are looking to learn to swim lessons to make yourself more comfortable in the water or trying to sharpen your skills for competitive swimming. Check out the Q&A section for more details about my background and qualifications! Looking forward to meeting you in our first lesson!

I have more than 12 years of swimming experience at the highest level and was a member of the national swimming team in Malaysia and NCAA Division II student-athlete while attending college in the United States. I have also participated in many international competitions such as World Championship, Commonwealth Games, World University Games, and World Junior Championship. Some of the achievements that I have been awarded through my swimming career are:

1. Current national record holder in 50 and 100 short course meters Breaststroke, multiple school record holder and NCAA honorable mention All-American.

2. 2-time SVSU athlete of the year nominee, 3-time SVSU Swimmer of the year

3. Appointed as Assistant Coach for Saginaw Valley State University for 2018-2019 season

4. Former Arena ambassador (widely known swimming brand in the swimming community)

About the lesson

1. Knowing more about their swimming background.

2. Any goals that student is trying to achieve?

3. Does the student have a swimming pool accessible to him/her? (Student is responsible to cover the cost of entrance fees if swimming pool is not a public pool)

Depending on the level of background, the teaching method, material as well as the pace of the class will vary across students to maximize learning and also creates a better learning experience for students of all ages.

I have worked with a wide range of students from 3 years old to 40 years old and above with different swimming backgrounds (Learn to swim to competitive swimming and competitive stroke corrections)
