About Matt
I have enjoyed teaching and helping people to learn from supporting my friends at school to helping learners for years in the UK and Italy. My lessons are built on getting to know you as an individual and how you best learn. We have different motivations and purposes to learn and I tune into these as well as people's interests, previous learning experiences and future ambitions. I have been a qualified English teacher since 2001 when I got my CELTA at the Brasshouse Language Centre in Birmingham. I have taught a really wide range of students from secondary school students to Chief Executives of multi-national companies to ESOL learners, getting a grasp of English in their workplaces. I enjoy teaching and the reward of people improving their skills and confidence to face the challenges of communicating in English that we all have in our lives!

I am a student-centred teacher with experience supporting learners of all ages and language backgrounds. I have taught in the UK and in Italy, including at International House and the Brasshouse Language Centre in Birmingham, where I also completed my CELTA. I also studied for the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (English Literacy) at the University of Warwick. I offer lessons that are carefully adapted to your needs and goals, whether you are preparing for exams (GCSE English, Functional Skills, IELTS, Cambridge English Certificates) or looking to improve your general English and communication skills. I can support and advise on academic writing - students have included Masters students writing their dissertations and health and social care professionals, completing high level apprenticeships. My approach is supportive and practical: I help learners build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing while developing strategies for success in real-life situations and in exams. Lessons can be focused on everyday English, workplace English, or academic preparation, depending on what matters most to you. As a former sportsperson, I love to support people with preparation for their assessments and examinations. I really enjoy the success and improvement of all my learners!
