About Maia
Current qualifications: 4A*s in the 2022 Alevel exam for Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry
I am currently 18 years old and I am in my first year at Imperial College London studying Physics. I studied at Diocesan Girls’ School in Hong Kong from 2010-2020 and at Cheltenham Ladies’ College in the UK from 2020-2022. Physics and Maths have always been a passion of mine, and I would very much like to share my knowledge with others. I like condensed matter physics and electronics. It is interesting to see how particles behave at low temperatures and what they do in conductors. I listen to music, play D&D and draw in my spare time.
Having just graduated from high school, I understand the struggle of most students , and I especially empathise with those who think they are simply “not good enough“ for Maths and Physics. I feel like most of the time the horrible-looking Greek symbols and gibberish-like formulas put them off. I want to show my students that this is not the case and with a bit of visualising and talking questions through, the seemingly unapproachable problems become a lot simpler to tackle, and that the concepts are not as hard to understand as they seem.

I don’t like memorising things as that is wayyy too much effort. During my lessons I will focus on drawing diagrams and breaking down problems into smaller pieces. I will ask students key questions, and will piece their answers together to show them the derivation process of, for example, a formula or concept. I believe visualising is the key concept to understanding and making abstract concepts tangible, which is why I always encourage people to draw out their ideas and problems. I will happily go through homework, past papers and any topics the student is interested in learning.
