About Kara
I first learned about tutoring reading when my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia, and I couldn't afford a tutor. So, I learned it myself and found my passion. I teach students from the age of 5 through adulthood. I am a Certified Barton Tutor with 9 years of experience.

I primarily use the Barton Reading and Spelling System to teach targeted, systematic, and explicit phonics. This is an Orton-Gillingham approach. I can also target phonemic awareness if you are not yet ready for phonics. After that, we will work on the five pillars of literacy.
