About Matthew
Hi, my name is Matthew, I am a first-year student studying at Durham university with a passion for teaching and drumming. I have been drumming since since the age of 11 and currently perform at a grade 7-8 level with knowledge surrounding rudiments, fills, a variety of songs and performing. I began tutoring at the start of my degree to introduce students to the world of drumming and assist them with the musical goals. I currently have expertise in Rock and Pop drumming but am also the drummer in the university's prestigious jazz band.

My lessons are typically around 30 minutes (but can be longer depending on individual needs) and consist of 4 main sections: 1) A 5-minute introduction to the lesson discussing current difficulties the student is facing as well as progress on practice. 2) A starter activity designed to introduce the skills of the lesson and allow me to find strengths and weaknesses. 3) main activity designed to teach or reinforce the student’s ability to perform a particular drumming skill or song which includes independent and collaborative work. 4) a 5-minute conclusion to the lesson to ask additional questions and discuss skills to learn in future lessons.

I typically teach 30-minute lessons at £20 an hour but am able to teach 60-minute lessons at £40 an hour if requested.
