Have been working in a teaching environment since the age of 13 when I did work experience at a pre-school. While in New Zealand during an Early Childhood Education course, I worked again in a local Primary School.
I grew up over in Derbyshire, attending small village schools where younger students were more like siblings. I have always been adept when working with people younger than myself. With two younger sisters, I learned over the years that the key to helping an individual to understand is to approach things in a calm manner and in a way/at a pace that suits the learner.
Whenever I have helped teach/explain things to an individual, I have found that the one-to-one contact is always important. Any individual learner I have helped has always been satisfied once they understood what they were learning. Having it explained in the right way by the right person can make all the difference and help them enjoy a subject they didn't like due to lack of understanding.
My name is Lara Pass and I was born in Chesterfield, England 1997. I attended St Mary’s Infant School from 1999 to 2005. I moved to Penny Acres Primary where I completed my Primary level exams (SATS) in Science, Maths and English with good grades. In 2009 I moved to Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School where in my third year, I started my GCSE’s in ICT, Maths and Photography. In early 2012, I also did a six months work experience placement at Gosforth Pre-School in Dronfield. I moved to Long Bay College in October 2012 and have just completed NZQA Level 2 in Classics, English, Health, Photography, Maths and Early Childhood Education. In 2013, I am currently studying at Granville College, Sheffield and am hoping to gain my NVQ in Hairdressing level 2. Until then, I am looking for new and challenging work/learning opportunities to further develop my skills and life experience. I am hard working and reliable.
• During my ICT coursework in England, I learned how to make a website from scratch including animated advertisements, navigation bars and things like business letters and business cards.
Communication with both adults and children
• During my work experience at Gosforth Pre-School I was in situations where I had to learn to communicate both with adults and Pre-School aged children.
I feel I am good at subjects like English, History and Classics because it gives me a chance to do research and broaden my knowledge. Along with verbal communication skills, I feel I have good writing skills which are shown not only in my work observation portfolio’s in home-schooling subjects, photography and ICT coursework but also in my current English creative writing pieces and Classics essays.

My main duties and responsibilities were to assist in the setting up of equipment and different learning areas within the Pre-School building and any outdoor provisions. I participated in the delivery of educational and play focused learning activities and outdoor games and recreational activity. I had the opportunities to plan and deliver a piece of work with a group of children which involved helping the children to understand light and dark shades and learning different parts of a flower by doing an observational painting of a vase of flowers.
Hobbies and Interests
My hobbies and interests include Classics and History which I think helps with research skills. I enjoy English literature because it is interesting to read different books and expand my knowledge as vastly as possible whilst also having the creative freedom when writing my own pieces. I enjoy playing the guitar, piano and ukulele which I am teaching myself. I think this is also useful because I will be able to use my skills to teach other people how to play instruments which I feel is a useful skill to have.
