About Felicity
I have an MA in English Language and Linguistics, awarded in 2021 by the University of Edinburgh. While studying, I decided to become a freelance writer, and my work has since appeared in The Times, Telegraph, Guardian and the Scotsman, all of which culminated in a publishing deal for a cookbook with Penguin in 2023. I have worked as a full-time outdoors journalist for the last two years for Bauer Media, and in August 2026 will be embarking on my teacher training.
Essays and English examinations are what I've built my current career on, and I have a professional and academic understanding of what examiners are looking for, as well as what makes great writing stand out from the crowd.
As a person, I'm enthusiastic, open and engaging, and very student-led. As someone with a broad range of hobbies (mountaineering, reading, cookery, improv comedy, swimming and camping, to name a few), I'm able to chat with you about anything and everything, even if you may think you're quite shy at first!

As a tutor, I break down the often impenetrable world of Nat 5 or Higher English (or GCSE and A level if applicable) into accessible, manageable and clear learning points. I'll be able to iron out any misunderstandings, and build upon your terminology usage when it comes to language devices, as well as refine your approach to the analysis of such techniques.
Improving your overall writing clarity is often as simple as just talking with you about your work, but I am always so excited to help with any properly technical details such as exactly how to link your answer back to the question. I can also advise as to where and what to read to improve your overall understanding of the subject. I will also offer you the opportunity to mark any Critical Essay or RUAE exam practice with me, and go over proper exam technique too.
I would be delighted to tutor students who may struggle with the traditional classroom approach to English Language. Due to my current employment in local primary schools, I have plenty of experience with ADHD and Autism and can adapt to learners' needs on a dynamic basis, with patience and care being my top priority. I have a full and current PVG in place.
