About Mariam
I'm a first-year History student at the University of Edinburgh, and I bring a strong academic record to back up my teaching: three A*s at A-Level, including History, Politics, and Art, full marks on my A-Level History Paper 2 covering Industrialisation and the French Revolution, and an EPQ on the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War, where I scored 47/50. Beyond the results, what really drives me is a genuine love for understanding why things happened rather than just memorising facts, and how much of what we see in politics today is really history repeating itself. I want to teach because I know how much of a difference it makes when someone explains the technique behind a subject rather than just the content, and I want to help my students build that same understanding and confidence in their own work.

My lessons are built around understanding why things happened, not just memorising dates and names, since that's what actually gets top grades.
Each session usually follows a simple structure: we start with a quick review of exam technique, focusing on how to structure essays, use evidence effectively, and hit the assessment objectives examiners are looking for. From there, we apply it directly to your specific topics, so you're practising with the exact content you'll be tested on rather than generic examples. Towards the end of each lesson, we'll work on source analysis and essay planning together, since that's usually where students lose the most marks
Everything is flexible and personalised around your syllabus, your pace, and wherever you're currently struggling, so no two lessons look exactly the same.
