About Lylia
I am a recent graduate in English and Foreign Languages, currently enrolled in a Master's in English Literature and Interdisciplinary Approaches.
My experience as a volunteer tutor has been rewarding, as I generally proofread application essays, personal statements, and creative essays on the daily. My communication skills have also improved tremendously, as I must work to be the most clear possible.
There is so much value in working with students of all sorts of backgrounds. Despite being the tutor, I have found myself learning from the students I had the pleasure of exchanging with.
I would like to keep on doing that and more!

The most important step to start a lesson is to assess a student's level, needs, and expectations. While the core lesson can be general, its application varies depending on the student.
It is productive to encourage agency during the lesson, as memory is best stimulated through active learning. Without overwhelming the student, I display my trust in their decision making, as well as their ability to store new information.
Closing the lesson with personalized feedback is generally effective; emphasizing both strengths, and room for improvement.
Adaptability is my focus as a tutor, as I must tailor my approach to different learning styles.
