Pedagogical approaches (how lessons are taught) is equally as important as the content of the discipline. Really getting to know how my students learn best is very important to me.
I believe that lessons should last 1 hour maximum with one or two short breaks within this hour to ensure that engagement is maximised. In 2019 I graduated from The University of Manchester with a 2:1 in BA Geography. This year have completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education from University College London's Institute of Education in which I trained to teach years 7-13 (ages 11-19).
After completing my PGCE this year, I have found both comfort and excitement in teaching the younger generations the wonders of the world through the lens of Geographical ideas. Ensuring that students are well versed in contemporary social, political and environmental issues ensures that students can make conscious choices while placing autonomy on that young person. Over the past year I have familiarised myself with the national curriculum and what is expected from students during exams. After my lessons I want students to feel empowered and motivated that they have learnt something new!
