About Gavin
I am currently a first-year PhD student at the University of Chicago studying meteorites and how stars make elements. I received my undergraduate degree in astrogeophysics from Colgate University in 2024. While in my undergrad, I tutored an introductory mechanics course for first-year physics students. I also did a wide range of research, including analyzing permafrost data from Antarctica, and even worked on an instrument going to the Moon. I am fascinated by all things science and passionate about my research. As a grad student, I often TA courses and occasionally teach introductory geoscience courses for non-STEM majors.

My core teaching principle is finding a method/approach that works for you. Since a young age I realized that the best teachers are ones who can explain complex concepts in multiple ways. In college, when I tutor for a class, I find that most people struggle because professors only teach the material in one way. The one method approach does not work, no matter your age. That is why I always try to find multiple ways to approach problems and will work with you to find the best method. A typical lesson can vary greatly from more basic homework assistance to short lessons with practice problems, or simply just review sessions. I am happy to assist in whatever is most useful.
