About Ryan
Hello,
My name is Ryan Mitchell.
I love the subjects I teach, but I understand they might not be your favorites. My job is not to make you love them; my job is to help you learn and improve. I want to teach to your strengths and will plan lessons around your feedback. My goal is to always find a way to make the content or the activities as enjoyable as possible.
In short: I have had poor tutors in the past. I won't repeat their mistakes.
A little about me: I studied Secondary Education, History, Political Science, and Special Education at Monmouth University where I earned by bachelor' degree. I then attended the London School of Economics (LSE) where I earned - with distinction - my master's degree in Theory and History of International Relations. I studied Islamic Political Theory & History; the Modern History of the Balkans; and International Institutions.
Since graduation I have worked in business consulting, at a startup, and in venture capital.

I teach concepts with examples and strategies that informed by the personal interests and strengths of my students. Students require tailored lessons.
Some students enjoy a seminar-based approach and can explore ideas and concepts through conversation. Others, however, may be more comfortable with visual or text-based approaches. To determine the best approach, I rely on the techniques and processes that allowed me to succeed in multiple age groups and in special education as well as honors, AP, and college-level curricula.
To determine the best approach, conversations with parent/guardian and the student will supplement my own observations. Each lesson will end with a reflection on the lesson to determine what worked and what didn't. Teaching is an evergreen process - strategies must constantly change and adapt. Stasis is a recipe for disaster.
Additionally, lessons can also be adjusted in anticipation of upcoming assessments. For example, an approaching paper will necessitate exercises that require structuring arguments in written and verbal form; citation practices; and reviews of paper structure.
