About Shelby
As a teacher of 9th grade Physics students for 5 years (yes, Physics in the 9th grade), one of the things I've learned is that students want to succeed even when they feel like the topic is too advanced or boring. You deserve to succeed and you deserve to feel like YOU can accomplish the goal of mastering a difficult class regardless of the small doubting voice that is in your head. As a tutor you can look forward to different learning techniques such as visual, logical, and social (working in small groups). Every student (including you) is different and has specific needs. In working together through some work problems, I will get to know where you are getting stuck, name it for you, and help you get through the problem. My job is not to give you the answer, but to show you that you already possess the skills to solve and name for you what you did to solve the problem. In shorter words, I want to work alongside you, to develop the confidence and skill set to no longer depend on me and to learn what questions you can ask as you are going through a lesson and/or worksheet.

Hi Future Students, Learning is a lifelong skill that I believe everyone has already been developing since birth. Due to different interests, preferences, and journeys some courses may be more difficult than others, AND that is NORMAL. What isn't okay, is struggling alone. Here is where I am happy to step in and help with the classes/classwork that gives you the most headache. A typical lesson will have a: 1. Do Now portion geared to activating your prior knowledge 2. Investigation/Digging (used to flex your prior knowledge in learning a new concept/topic) 3. Independent Practice (This is where you can show what you know with little help, BUT don't worry - I won't leave you stuck on a problem. 4. Quick Closing Quiz - This will be data that I can use to help you continue learning AND it will show you where you are compared to where you want to be. I am excited to work alongside you and I hope that you are excited to learn and master the concepts that give you struggle. Together, you WILL grow and you WILL develop the confidence and strategies to succeed. Looking forward to meeting you, Mr. Shelby Jean-Michel
