About Chuyu
Hi, I'm Victoria! I'm a full-time 3rd-grade teacher with 5 years of classroom experience, currently teaching math, grammar, and literature to elementary students. Before that, I was teaching competition math to kindergarten through 2nd graders, which gave me a strong foundation in how young children think and learn best.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Teaching isn't just my job — it's something I care deeply about. I grew up in China and moved to the U.S. for high school, so I know firsthand what it feels like to work hard at something new and unfamiliar. That experience shapes how I teach: with patience, clear explanations, and a genuine belief that every student can succeed with the right support.
Outside the classroom, I hold myself to the same standards I bring to my students every day: reliability, preparation, and clear communication with families about progress. Whether your child needs help catching up, staying on track, or building confidence, I'm here to make learning feel achievable — and enjoyable.

As a full-time 3rd-grade teacher with 5 years of classroom experience, I know exactly where young learners tend to get stuck — and how to help them get unstuck without making them feel discouraged. I have also taught competition math for 3 years for kindergarten to 2nd graders, so I know how to foster young minds.
I grew up in China and learned English there before moving to the U.S. for high school. Because I went through the process of learning English as a second language myself, I understand firsthand what it's like to learn a new language — the specific challenges, the moments of frustration, and what actually helps things click. In my classroom, I also teach grammar to 3rd graders, so beyond math, I can support students with English Language Arts (ELA) and language learning as well. For Mandarin-speaking families, I'm also happy to use Chinese to help explain tricky English concepts when that makes learning click faster.
I would like a typical lesson to start with a quick check-in to see how the students are doing and then some questions to warm up their brains. I strongly believe in fun and engaging lessons. Learning can only happen if it is fun.
Therefore, my lessons are what set me apart. I know the curriculum, common misconceptions, and pacing that schools expect. I can make lessons personal to you so learning feels enjoyable, not like a chore. My lessons are best suited for elementary students (K-5) who need extra support in math, grammar, or ELA — whether they're catching up, staying on track, building English language skills, or working toward a stronger foundation before the next school year.
