About Jerry

I’ve spent more than 35 years working professionally in photography, creative direction, and visual communication. Along the way, I’ve discovered that one of the most rewarding parts of my career is helping others become better photographers.

My teaching style is patient, practical, and encouraging. I explain techniques in everyday language, demonstrate how they work, and then help you put them into practice with your own camera.

My interest in photography began when I was a kid. My father would occasionally let me borrow his camera, and I still remember the excitement of realizing I could create the photograph I imagined. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for photography and visual storytelling.

Over the years, I’ve collaborated with international brands, agencies, and local businesses on a wide range of creative projects. I’ve also spent years teaching, training, and mentoring others.

But professional experience alone doesn’t make someone a good teacher. I believe patience, clear explanations, and an understanding of each student’s goals are just as important.

One of my favorite moments is watching a student discover how a simple change in composition, lighting, or exposure can transform a photograph.

Recently, I worked with a student who wanted to move beyond Auto mode. Watching her discover how creative decisions could change the story her photographs told reminded me why I enjoy teaching.

Whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or looking to develop skills you’ve been practicing for years, I’ll work at your pace and focus on the kinds of photographs you want to create.

After more than four decades behind a camera, I’m still learning, experimenting, and discovering new things to photograph. That’s part of what makes photography so rewarding.

Have you ever taken a photograph that just didn’t capture what you saw?

Maybe the lighting wasn’t quite right, the composition felt off, or your camera settings didn’t give you the results you expected.

That’s where I can help.

My photography lessons are hands-on, personalized, and built around what YOU want to photograph. You’ll learn by actually taking photographs with your own camera while I guide you through the settings, techniques, and creative decisions that help produce better results.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to improve your existing skills, we’ll work together to develop your technical knowledge, creative eye, and confidence behind the camera.

 We’ll explore things like:

 • Understanding aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and how they affect your photographs.

 • Recognizing good light and learning how to work with it.

 • Improving composition to create photographs that tell a story.

 • Moving beyond Auto mode and taking creative control of your camera.

 • Exploring landscape, travel, street, lifestyle, food, and product photography.

 • Using Lightroom to organize, develop, and bring your photographs to life.

How do the lessons work?

I believe the best way to learn photography is by actually taking photographs.

For in-person lessons, we’ll choose a location suited to your interests, whether that’s a park, beach, urban neighborhood, or another appropriate setting. You’ll work with your own camera while I guide you through practical exercises and explain why certain techniques work.

For online lessons, we can explore camera settings, photographic techniques, or work directly with your images in Lightroom. You’ll do the work yourself while I guide you step by step.

My goal isn’t simply to teach you which buttons to press. It’s to help you understand how light, composition, and camera settings work together so you can make the photographs you envision.

And hopefully, you’ll have a lot of fun along the way!
