It builds trust between the tutor and student, creating a space where the learner can feel confident in their progress and guidance. I strongly believe that empathy is essential when acting as an academic mentor, creating a relationship that explores and fosters the expression of each student's unique voice. I have been profoundly affected by mentor/mentee relationships, and I pass this gift forward.
