First, I will listen to your needs. Are you a visual, oral or kinaesthetic learner? What topics do you struggle with? I promise to personalise my teaching methods.
Next, we’ll work through topics in a chronological order. It takes time to 1) understand a topic, 2) justify your thoughts/arguments on this topic, and 3) apply them in a past paper.
I’ll be patient and empathetic if you find a particular topic hard. Personally, I hated Maths at school because I suffered with dyscalculia. I was in bottom set and I was anxious to put my hand up in lessons. But I made serious progress in Year 11 when my Maths tutor believed in me - I ended up with a grade 7 at GCSE! So my aim as a tutor is to encourage (NOT judge) you.
I currently teach English as a foreign language to adult immigrants in Leeds (every Tuesday with a charity called Flourishing Families).
On the opposite end of the student age range, I volunteered at Rowledge Primary School (Hampshire) in 2019 as a Teacher’s Assistant for Year R. As a result, in 2020 I was called back to Rowledge as a Key Worker, trusted as a lead Teacher for a Year 5 “pod”.
My work experience, combined with my recent memories of being an A* A-Level student, has inspired my two-sided approach to teaching. I want to communicate/debate with students - this will develop curious, enthusiastic people!
