Highly-qualified and professional academic tutor available to teach students of all ages

Methodology

Having worked in the City of London for 7 years, I have now transitioned to working as a full-time academic tutor and freelancer, specialising in English language and literature, and French and Russian as foreign languages (oral and written) across all ages and levels of ability. I also provide detailed assistance with essay and dissertation writing, editing, correction and revision and am equally happy to help clients hone their writing skills for less formal occasions should they desire.

My lessons are both interactive and enjoyable, which I believe is the key to language acquisition and improvement. Whether you are looking to improve your writing and speaking skills in any target language or simply want to dedicate your time to learning something new, I can help.

Background

I currently have a roster of private clients across all ages in English Language and Literature, French and Russian, and have been teaching part time for the past 7 years. My students come to me for a variety of reasons, whether it is specific exam preparation, general improvement or as complete beginners. I have enjoyed a huge amount of success in helping my clients reach their desired level of mastery in their chosen subject. I have experience of teaching children as young as 9 years of age, through primary, secondary, GCSE, A level, degree level and beyond.

Academic

2011- 13 MA Translation and Professional Language Skills (French and Russian)
The University of Bath, Bath, UK

I undertook a vocational, postgraduate course in Translation and Professional Language Skills, which included editing and revision, proofreading, public-service interpreting and translation modules in French and Russian, which focus on political, economic and technical translation.

2007 – 11 BA Hons Modern Languages & European Studies (French & Russian) 2.1
The University of Bath, Bath, UK

I have developed interests in foreign literature, cinema, travel and politics as a result of my degree. In addition to the practical acquisition of two modern foreign languages, I undertook invaluable cultural and political studies concerning the countries in which these languages are spoken, allowing me a broader socio-political understanding.

2002 - 07 The Windsor Girls’ School, Windsor, UK

‘A Levels’ in English Literature (A), French (A), Theatre Studies (A), History (B)

‘GCSE’s’ - 10 A* to C grades.

Teaching experience (examples)

Summer 2012 Chinese Summer School, Eton College, Eton, UK

I worked as an English teacher for Eton College’s Chinese Summer School, during which I was solely responsible for both the grammatical and cultural education of my own class of Chinese foreign exchange students. Responsibilities included lesson planning, delivering classes and accompanying students on cultural excursions to a plethora of British museums and points of cultural interest including the London Eye and the British Museum.

2009 (6 months) Voronezh State University, Voronezh, Russia

I completed a four-month period of teaching university-level students and studying in Voronezh, Russia, where I further improved my teaching and language skills as part of my year abroad. I was responsible for planning lessons based around current affairs and holding oral classes aimed at enhancing the students’ grasp of English with a native speaker.

Cross-section of current students

Private Students: Ongoing as of November 2016
I have provided examples of my existing student base rather than a comprehensive list since there are too numerous to detail individually.

Student A: KS2, aged 9 years

I have been employed on an ongoing basis to provide support for a primary school student struggling with syntax and grammar. Although a bright student, they have difficulty structuring their sentences appropriately and the student’s parents feel that not enough grammatical support is offered in school.

Student B: KS3, aged 13 years

Student B is bilingual, speaking both English and French fluently, and is struggling with basic linguistic conventions in both his written and spoken English. As I am able to speak both English and French I have been working across the two languages to help the student improve their written and spoken English whilst developing a good grounding grammatically. Together we are working towards a move from International School into the mainstream UK school system.

Student C: KS3, aged 15 years

Student C struggles with dyslexia and requires support for GCSE English. As such, I have developed a programme to help them work through the curriculum whilst also providing support in structuring written work and grammar.

Student D: KS4, aged 17 years

I am assisting Student D in their French and English Literature A level preparation. Though an able student, they were unfortunately unwell during their GCSEs and, as such, require some support to attain the grades of which they are capable.
