I attend an all honors, writing intensive college and am finishing up my thesis now. I am a TA for my university in a writing across the curriculum course, and I have 3 years experience tutoring students with their writing and analytical reading skills.

My teaching methods typically involve meeting with the student to discuss their needs before seeing their work, then going over it together and improve it. I don't believe in simply critiquing red-pen style, because that often results in a misunderstanding of the student's intention. Tutoring should not be another teacher-student relationship where one tells the other what to do. Instead it should be a peer relationship where tutor and student work together to achieve the student's individual goals in respect to their learning style and unique writing style.
