My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, interactive and focused on building confidence, understanding and independent learning. I believe every learner has unique strengths and learning needs, so I adapt my teaching methods to suit individual abilities, interests and academic goals.

Teaching Techniques and Methodology

I use a combination of inquiry-based learning, guided discussions, practical examples, quizzes, source analysis, research activities and structured exercises. I encourage learners to ask questions, think critically, express their ideas and connect classroom knowledge to real-life situations. I also use differentiated instruction to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. Where necessary, I provide personalised feedback, revision exercises and additional learning resources.

Typical Lesson Duration

My lessons typically last 45–60 minutes, depending on the learner's age, level and learning objectives. Each lesson includes a brief introduction or review, the main teaching activities, interactive practice and a recap to assess understanding.

Qualifications and Tutoring Experience

I hold a Bachelor of Education degree in History and Swahili from the University of Nairobi. I am an experienced educator with an international teaching background, having taught in Kenya, Kuwait and Somaliland. My experience includes teaching History, Global Perspectives, Sociology, Research Methods, Humanities and Swahili. I have also worked with Cambridge and American curriculum frameworks, supported learners with different academic needs and provided online and private tutoring. I am IELTS-certified and have additional training in safeguarding young people in international schools.

Who My Lessons Are For

My lessons are suitable for primary and secondary school learners, particularly those aged 10–18, as well as older students and adults interested in learning Swahili. I support learners preparing for Cambridge, IGCSE and other international curriculum assessments, as well as students seeking to improve their research, writing, critical-thinking and examination skills.

My ultimate goal is to make learning engaging, meaningful and enjoyable while helping every student develop the confidence and skills to achieve their full academic potential.
